  • Made in America?

  • Always Ask The Contractor
  • Copy of current License and insurance.
Protect your assets. Make sure you ask for a copy of current license and an updated certificate of insurance.

    Two Recent References.
Follow up with references. Ask questions like, "Were they happy with the results?", "Did contractor work in a timely manor?", "Was the contractor courteous, knowledgeable, and neat?". The more questions you ask the better.

    What Organizations they belong to.
Ask if the contractor belongs to an organization. Electricians who belong to trade associations are generally more aware of the latest procedures, products, and code updates.

  • General Questions and Answers
  • Why do I need a licensed electrician?
A licensed electrician (commonly referred to as an electrical contractor) has been tested in order to receive a master electrical license. In addition, a contractor has the necessary insurance requirements (mandated by Westchester County) to protect your investment. Members of the W.C.L.E.C.A have continuing electrical education and safety programs (which is not required by Westchester County) in order to maintain a high level of knowledge which serves the electrical consumer at large.

  • Residential Questions and Answers
  • Should I ask my electrical contractor for references from other homeowners?
A Licensed Electrical Contactor is only as good as there reputation. If you have never contracted with this electrician who answered your call, it´s fair to ask for the names of other homeowners who have and to give them a call to check there work.

Is my home´s electrical system grounded properly?
Ground-wiring protects a home and its occupants in case of an electrical fault, such as a short-circuit. Grounding also protects electronic equipment like computers and many appliances. An electrician can quickly check and update your grounding system.

My lights dim when the air conditioner comes on, should I be worried?
If the dimming is momentary, the problem is with the power company´s voltage and considered Normal. If the dimming is pronounced and sporadic, it is time to call an electrical contractor.

If I upgrade my service, will the dimming go away?
Upgrading will improve your overall quality of the electrical service, but you may still experience some dimming, which is normal.

I only have half of my lights working.
Call your power company first, if they don´t have other reported power problems, call an electrician.

Smoke Detectors...
Smoke detectors are a vital part of the life safety equipment you should have in your home. Should one detector be activated all others detectors will sound together. This is now required by the New York State Building code.
CO2 monitors...
Carbon monoxide is a odorless and colorless deadly gas. It can kill a person in less then a minute. Any type of combustion system gives off this gas. All homes should have a least one on every floor, and especially one near any home heating system.
Please make sure you use a licensed Electrician to install and check all your electrical systems.
