Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions & Answers
Why do I need a licensed electrician?
A licensed electrician (commonly referred to as an electrical contractor) has been tested in order to receive a master electrical license. In addition, a contractor has the necessary insurance requirements (mandated by Westchester County) to protect your investment. Members of the W.C.L.E.C.A have continuing electrical education and safety programs (which is not required by Westchester County) in order to maintain a high level of knowledge which serves the electrical consumer at large.

Always Ask The Contractor
Copy of current License and insurance
Protect your assets. Make sure you ask for a copy of current license and an updated certificate of insurance.
Two Recent References
Follow up with references. Ask questions like, "Were they happy with the results?", "Did contractor work in a timely manor?", "Was the contractor courteous, knowledgeable, and neat?". The more questions you ask the better.
What Organizations they belong to
Ask if the contractor belongs to an organization. Electricians who belong to trade associations are generally more aware of the latest procedures, products, and code updates.
